Shark Tank - Research Translation Challenge 2024

Do you have a great translational research idea that could use some extra support? Make your pitch at this year’s TropiQ Townsville Research Symposium!

The Shark Tank Research Translation Challenge provides the opportunity for THHS clinical teams to pitch their ideas for translational projects to a panel of judges.

On the day, judges will award grant funding totalling up to $25K.

Translational health seeks to apply the findings from previous research to clinical practice to deliver improved health outcomes for individuals, communities, and the functioning of the health system.

Translational projects are those where there is good evidence to support clinical practice change – they may involve implementing a new practice not currently being done, and/ or, stopping or altering a current practice.

Rules of engagement

  • Projects must be led by a THHS clinician and should involve a team of key personnel who collectively have the capacity to effect the required translation and change.
  • Projects should align with the aims of the THHS Research Strategic Plan and TAAHC research priorities.

Each team will submit a written brief (2 pages max.) to register for the Shark Tank session, addressing research translation objectives.Criteria your brief should include:

    • The problem the research team is trying to address
    • The research evidence for the practice change
    • Which specific setting the practice change will take place
    • Specify the key stakeholders expected to lead and adopt practice change
    • Detail how the research team will disseminate successful change outcomes (esp. throughout THHS and the TAAHC partner organisations)
  • Make your pitch! Each team will have 4 minutes to impress a panel of judges about why the project is necessary and how the team thinks it could be done.  Critical aspects of the written submission should be covered in the presentation. Creative and entertaining presentations are encouraged (props and/or 1 PowerPoint slide are permitted).
